	Thomas Call Staff position: Managing Editor Major and minor: Dance major, English minor, editing minor Hometown and state: Batesville, Indiana Career goals: I’d like to work with stories, whether that’s teaching others to write them or working in publishing or the gaming industry as a story designer. I also have different ideas for books that I’d like to write floating around. Favorite book: I really like books about Arthurian legend. I also like Brothers Karamazov, The Fifth Mountain, Beauty, The Runelords, A Wrinkle in Time, and others. Favorite vacation locale: Japan, or the beach, or the beach in Japan. 	Bonnie Brown Staff positions: Assistant Managing Editor; Facebook Manager Favorite vacation locale: Disneyland! Or the British Isles, Germany, Switzerland, France… Favorite vacation experience: Scotland with my family, had a small cottage to ourselves in a little coastal town. One vacation necessity: journal I never leave home without: lip balm, a pen, my driver’s license In high school alone I lived in Germany and traveled to France, England, Scotland, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Greece, Austria, Egypt, and The Netherlands all because of school extra-curricular activities.
	Cara Gillespie Staff position: Assistant Editing Manager Hometown and state: Reno, NV Favorite book: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger I never leave home without: My keys. I want to know I’ll be able to get back in. Favorite quote: “Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.” —Albus Dumbledore I have never: Been surfing. I’m secretly jealous of California surf bums. Someday I’m going to gather enough courage and cash to go to Las Olas, a surf camp in Mexico, and then all of my surfing dreams can come true. Dream travel location: Santorini, Greece
	Laura Jackson Staff positions: Copyeditor; Social Media Director Major and minor: English Teaching, Editing Hometown and state: Las Vegas, Nevada Career goals: To be the owner of a small freelance editing network and become a published author of stories and poetry Favorite vacation locale: Disneyland! I never leave home without: a camera I have never: Been off this continent, so I hope to see Wales and Scotland someday. My real wish is to take a train trip along the countryside and stay in bed and breakfasts and visit castles and graveyards.
	Amanda Wind Staff position: Copyeditor Favorite or least favorite part of editing: Commas are the best—it’s like putting together a puzzle. Favorite vacation experience: When I visited New York City at the age of sixteen, the most memorable moment I had was jaywalking along with the rest of the native New Yorkers and feeling so cool doing it. One vacation necessity: A good book for down time Other interesting travel tidbit: I’m usually terrible at packing light for a trip—the only time I really accomplished it was when I went to Idaho for Thanksgiving with my fiancé’s outdoorsy, practical family and wanted to impress them.

	Jenna Hoffman Staff position: Senior Editor Major: Majoring in Public Health with minors in editing and international development Hometown and state:Lehi, UT Favorite part of editing: When the author takes my suggestions! Favorite vacation locale: San Diego. If that’s cliché, I also like Wyoming. Favorite vacation experience:Galloping alongside my cousin through the forest on the back of a big black horse. That was fun. Other interesting travel tidbit: I used to think I was invincible when it came to sunburns. Then I spent a whole day on a beach in southern Thailand without sunscreen. Moral of the story: wear sunscreen.

Tolkien Favorite vacation experience: When my wife accepted my proposal at Newport Beach. One vacation necessity: A soccer ball. If you ever need to waste time, there are always places to kick around ball. Favorite quote: “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” –J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring Dream travel location: “Middle-earth,” New Zealand. I would love to tour the shooting locations for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.
	Holly Smith Staff position: Art Director Major and minor: English/Editing Hometown and state: Cypress, California Favorite book: The Awakening by Kate Chopin I never leave home without: Chapstick and my phone Other interesting travel tidbit: I absolutely love airplanes and flying. I can’t sleep well on them, but there is something so great to me about being in a little bubble up in the air where you are free to just relax. No e-mails, no texts, no calls, just the music on my phone and a few good books. Plus, who doesn’t love the bottomless Diet Coke?

I never leave home without: Feeling excited Favorite quote: Life is uncertain; eat dessert first.
	Robert Faulkner Staff position: Senior Designer Career goals: Teach at Hebrew University Favorite vacation experience: Solo road trip in a ridiculous gold sports car to Arizona. Favorite quote: “Don’t worry, be happy.” I have never: visited a country that I did not like. Other interesting travel tidbit: Every time I fly, I get pulled aside by airport security.
	Josh Fulton Staff positions: Senior Designer; Web Team Member Favorite or least favorite part of editing: I like making things look and sound better, but I also hate making authors angry with my changes . . . or angry in general. Authors are vicious. Favorite vacation experience: I loved my vacation to Hawaii with my family, where we got to swim with fish and turtles and hang out on the beach. I touched a sea turtle and simultaneously crossed an item off of my bucket list. Favorite quote: “Words—so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them.” —Nathaniel Hawthorne I have never: Taken an actual train ride, like, across a long distance. Other interesting travel tidbit: I love traveling, but I hate big crowds, so I try to avoid really popular places (like Versailles) and try to find more out-of-the-way places to go.
	Adam Wright Staff position: Web Outreach Manager, Senior Designer Hometown and state: Virginia Beach, VA Favorite quote: “Don’t believe a quote you see on the Internet just because it’s attributed to a famous person.” —Abraham Lincoln I have never: Traveled by large ship Dream travel location: Kayaking trip Other interesting travel tidbit: I get most of my writing utensils by finding them on the sidewalk. I haven’t had to buy a pen in years.
	Amy Carlin Staff position: Advertising Advisor Educational Background: BA in Linguistics (BYU) Hometown: Provo, Utah Career goals: My current position is that of Office Specialist at the BYU Charles Redd Center for Western Studies. I edit scholarly publications, plan trips and events, and do office work. In the future, I’d love to edit books for a fiction publishing company or use editing to help businesses look better in print. Favorite vacation experience: I went to Canada for two weeks with my family when I was eight. We stayed in bungalows, did a lot of hiking, and got to walk on the Athabasca Glacier. 	Natalie Taylor Staff position: Social Media Advisor Major: English language Hometown: Plymouth, Minnesota Career goals: Work as a freelance editor and dance professionally Favorite Book: To Kill a Mockingbird One vacation necessity: It’s boring, but a camera. I can hardly remember a trip without pictures from it. Pictures always seem to solidify the event in my memory, just like writing does. I never leave home without: Obviously my phone, but also my Nalgene water bottle. I bring that thing everywhere, and I drink at least three a day; my day is literally ruined when I leave it at home. Favorite quote: “The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.” —Pablo Picasso
	Jessica Reschke Staff position: Design Advisor Major: Humanities, English emphasis Hometown: Las Vegas, Nevada Career goals: Besides opening a pizzeria with my husband, I eventually want to have enough editing and design experience that I can work on freelance projects that really care about. Favorite vacation locale: Anywhere new. I’m most in my element when I’m thrown into an unfamiliar place that I have to figure out. One vacation necessity: The promise of really good food. I begin planning my travel days with a map of the places I want to eat. I have never: Had a brain freeze. I don’t care if it’s snowing outside, I am most likely on the prowl for a frozen treat. One of my greatest talents is my ability to rapidly memorize ice cream flavors in any language. Other interesting travel tidbit: I have fallen asleep on nearly every mode of transportation known to man.
	Dallin Law Staff position: Web Advisor Major: English Hometown: Omak, Washington Favorite part of editing: Definitely collaborating with other passionate writers, there’s nothing I love more than helping something incredible go to print. Favorite vacation locale: The sea. I grew up happily in the dry mountains of Eastern Washington but as soon as I reach an ocean, I wonder if it had always been calling my name. One vacation necessity: Food. I tell people I don’t believe in souvenirs because I need the money for exotic meats and crusty artisan bread. I never leave home without: My pocketknife. It comes in handy.

I lead a small life—well, valuable, but small—and sometimes I wonder, do I do it because I like it, or because I haven’t been brave? So much of what I see reminds me of something I read in a book, when shouldn’t it be the other way around? 	Julie Ogborn Staff position: Editorial Advisor Educational Background: BA in English with a Minor in Editing (received May 2013) Hometown: South Jordan, Utah Career goals: I am currently working on projects for Covenant Communications and Ancestry.com as a freelance editor and writer. But I would love to edit full time for a book or magazine publisher. One vacation necessity: A safety pin. I’ve learned my lesson in the past: whenever I don’t have one, I always find that I need one desperately when something—my pack or my tent—rips open or becomes unstitched at the seams during my trip. I never leave home without: A water bottle, my favorite flavor of Trident gum, and Blistex Raspberry Lemonade Blast Favorite quote: “You never finish revising; you just run out of time.”
	Marvin Gardner Staff position: Editor in Chief Hometown: Grew up in Duncan, Arizona, and Provo, Utah. I currently reside in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Career: Before becoming a professor at BYU in 2005, I worked for 28 years as a full-time editor and writer for the Ensign and Liahona magazines, both of which are distributed worldwide. For more than half of those years, I was managing editor of the Liahona.
